Jupiter

Jupiter (aka Jove, Sol 5, Zeus) is a gas giant orbiting the Sun, and the most recent Human colony, and by far the most dangerous. Two tiny floating research stations rest in the upper atmosphere, there to study the indigenous, non-sentient lifeforms, including the beautiful Airwhales and their immediate superiors in the food chain, the deadly Kites.

Mostly automated, the delicate instruments on the research stations need a great deal of monitoring and readjusting. The Human personnel needed for this are based on Ganymede, one of its many natural satellites.

Jupiter maintains sixteen moons in its orbit, and has two "Trojan" asteroid belts.
